Audience Survey 2009

A Beggars Fair audience survey was online for a few weeks after the 2009 event. 85 people responded, mostly people in their 20s or 40s and mostly Facebook users as that’s where the survey was advertised. Most had attended the Beggars Fair for a number of years, and about three-quarters were from the local area, with over half from Romsey itself, showing that we are reaching our primary target of Romsey residents.

The responses were overwhelmingly positive with over 80% rating Beggars Fair as good or excellent, and the highest ratings for atmosphere. The Cornmarket stage and pub venues were the best attended. Most people came for a combination of the music and socialising with friends; one respondent sums it up very succinctly as “socialising with old friends, music and atmosphere.” Audience comments reinforced these findings, with the atmosphere and music receiving the most mentions.

Most of the negative comments were about the weather. Aside from that, the highest number of complaints concerned the 5-6pm bar closure, something that was unpopular with the publicans and the committee as well as the audience. There were a relatively small number of complaints however, and many ended with a positive comment.

There were a number of suggestions, several of which we have responded to on our Suggestions page.
